Encompassing all the elements of a balanced lifestyle, this unique wellness event offers the chance to hear nationally-respected experts and participate in enriching workshops, cooking demonstrations, al fresco yoga and pilates classes, nature walks and more.
Tickets are now on sale at www.snowmasswellness.com. For the complete schedule, ticket prices, lodging specials, and presenter information, visit the website or call 1-800-SNOWMASS.
Top Reasons to Put Wellness on Your Calendar:
Hands on: It's a Different Type of Wellness Festival. Many wellness festivals involve sitting in lecture halls listening to speakers-that's not our idea of Wellness! Wellness starts from the earth up, and attendees can get their hands dirty in this novel approach. Fitness classes, cooking demonstrations and tastings, how-to workshops, a green expo, nature hikes, a spirits tasting, comedy, an on-site spa, and more mean attendees aren't merely observers-- they're participants.
Learn how to grow your own food. As fuel and food prices continue to rise, more people are interested in growing their own food. From never-evers to seasoned gardeners, the Snowmass Wellness Experience provides access to top experts who share how to grow and cook your own food and eat nutritionally and sustainably. In their ONLY Colorado appearance, internationally respected keynote speakers Eliot Coleman and Barbara Damrosch of the Four Seasons Farm in Maine have over sixty years of combined experience with organic farming and will explore everything from the seduction of a kitchen garden to the how-tos of sustainable organic gardening.
It's an Edible Extravaganza. From chocolate and yoga classes to an organic spirits tasting to cooking demos and a wellness expo with plenty of free goodies, Snowmass Wellness Experience participants won't go home hungry. They'll also learn how to design and incorporate edible plants into residential landscapes from Jerome Osentowski, one of the foremost permaculture practitioners in the United States who will share insights into agroforestry and other new methods of organic farming and landscaping.
Check out this Whole Food philosophy: We're not talking a grocery store, but rather education about the entire food cycle. With the motto of Wellness From the Earth Up, The Snowmass Wellness Experience offers the chance to learn about healthy eating from a myriad of angles: growing to cooking to preserving to nutrition to incorporating food into your fitness routine.
Foster healthy eating habits. As diabetes and obesity continue to be two of the nation's top health concerns, this festival teaches the tools needed for healthy eating. Mariana Bozesan, author of Diet for a New Life, shares her highly respected integral 8-step approach to life that also reveals the weight loss secrets of centenarians and successful dieters. Other wellness workshops include how to harvest and preserve an organic garden, how to create healthy snacks for people on the go, and how to read nutritional labels.
Focus on the moment. In his only Colorado appearance this summer, nationally respected and popular Yahoo Mind-Body Expert David Romanelli leads Yoga and Chocolate, Yoga and Wine, and Living in the Moment workshops. Romanelli is the co-founder of At One Yoga which has gained national renown by fusing Western culture's fashion, music and technology with Eastern culture's sacred rituals and ancient tradition. He now teaches at Exhale in California and tours the world with his Yoga and Chocolate class, designed with Vosges Haut-Chocolat founder Katrina Markoff. Diverse additional yoga and pilates workshops are available through the Shakti Foundation and the Aspen Club & Spa, including yoga guru Simon Park's popular Thai Massage class. Get well through laughter. Comedy can be used as a healing art, and Steve Bhaerman, has audiences laughing until the sacred cows come home while sharing insight on how to make positive changes in life. Bhaerman, who performs as Swami Beyondananda, the "Cosmic Comic," is an internationally known author, humorist, and workshop leader and offers a comedy show and workshops at this event.
Bring it all home. How can you eat locally and sustainably at Colorado's altitude? The Snowmass Wellness Experience brings together a talented regional roster of chefs, nutritionists, gardeners, and experts so participants can begin making connections to local sources of food, spirits, and inspiration.
Relax and Retreat. Everyone is entitled to a little R&R. Yoga classes, nature hikes, morning meditations, and a spa pavilion all offer opportunities to relax in Snowmass. Each day pass comes with one complimentary mini-spa treatment through Aspen Club & Spa, and participants are welcome to sign up for more as space allows.
Costly? Well, no. Wellness shouldn't come at a price that's painful to your mind, body, or spirit. The Snowmass Wellness Experience is substantially more affordable than other wellness festivals. An all-inclusive weekend pass is only $175, while day passes, keynote speech passes and fitness/expo passes start as low as $30, allowing attendees the flexibility to see it all or just a little. For every yoga pass sold, the Shatki foundation donates $2.50 to a local nonprofit.

Bio: Bonerama: Unlike any other rock ‘n' roll, funk or brass band, Bonerama brings a unique spin to vintage New Orleans funk and hits on all four cylinders in the brass section. Not quite the traditional brass band (there are no trumpets or saxes), the four-trombone frontline blows audiences away with improvised, vintage funk and classic rock riffs. Rolling Stone magazine praised their "...crushing ensemble riffing, human-feedback shrieks and wah-wah growls" (2007). From the dynamic Drew Emmitt Band to the roots-rock Freddy Jones Band to traditional Celtic music from Gaelic Storm, Snowmass moves on this week to present American singer/songwriter, Dan Hicks and his band the Hot Licks.
Bio: Dan Hicks and the Hot Licks
Singer-songwriter Dan Hicks is truly an American original. Since the early 1960s, Hicks has been creating his own musical legend by deftly blended elements of Swing, Jazz, Folk and Country music to create the appealing sound he sometimes calls "Folk Jazz". The lyrics of his songs range from the simply sublime to the sublimely ridiculous, all presented with his uniquely skewed and inscrutable touch. Dan's irresistible sense of rhythm, hip lyrical styling, laid-back vocalizing, and infamous on-stage wit easily draw in fans for life. Hick's albums have been critically acclaimed, and The San Francisco Chronicle once noted that "so few truly original figures exist in pop music that Dan Hicks should be a national treasure." He's a snappy dresser, too.

how you count) with the first rodeo Wednesday, June 18 at the Snowmass Rodeo Grounds
in Snowmass Village. Gates open at 5 p.m. and the rodeo starts at 7 p.m. A new food
vendor, new attractions and new souvenir merchandise will be added this year to the
already packed slate of activities that take place every Wednesday through the summer with
the last rodeo on Aug. 20.
The Hickory House restaurant and caterer, based in Aspen, will serve as the food
vendor at the Snowmass Rodeo this summer, providing their famous ribs and chicken under
the BBQ tent, with veteran rodeo performer Twirp Anderson singing to the diners. The
Snowmass Rodeo menu will offer the choice of a full dinner of ribs and chicken, with sides
of baked beans, cole slaw and au gratin potatoes, or a sandwich package that includes either
a chicken or beef sandwich and the same side dishes. The full dinner is priced at $18 and
the sandwich is $9. Both include beverages and chocolate chip cookies for dessert. The
Hickory House will also offer a kids' meal for $5 for those 10 and under. Children 10 and
under are admitted free to the rodeo.
"We're excited about expanding into Snowmass Village and being a part of the
Snowmass Rodeo," said Paul Dioguardi, Hickory House owner.
The restaurant has operated in Aspen since 1988 and is known for its barbecued
baby back ribs, imported from Denmark. Hickory House, which also operates a restaurant
in Parker, CO, has won dozens of national and international rib cook-off competition
awards.
Dioguardi, who started in the rib business 20 years ago, traveling the country competing
in BBQ rib competitions, bought the Hickory House 10 years ago. Over the years
they have won 43 competitions for their ribs and BBQ sauce.
The restaurant is a favorite of visitors and locals alike and has drawn attention from celebrities,
such as Oprah who showcased the Hickory House ribs on one of her favorite foods segments.
Last year a mechanical bull was added to the attractions at the rodeo that also include pony rides
and steerhead roping. This year will feature a big inflated bouncy horse, ideal for small toddlers or those
too timid to take on the bull. The steerhead roping practice area now features new steer dummies, replacing
the old hay bales and steer heads, along with special children-sized ropes.
Vendors will once again include Collections, offering women's western apparel and other items,
and Wienerdog Kids Toys with western and retro toys. Both have stores on Snowmass Mall. The
Wienerdog booth will also feature a pop gun shooting contest.
A third booth will offer Snowmass Rodeo souvenir merchandise including bean bag horses with
Snowmass Rodeo bandannas, kids' ropes, books on the western lifestyle and people in the valley and
bandannas with the Snowmass Rodeo logo.
The Snowmass Rodeo, produced by the Snowmass Western Heritage Association, starts
Wednesday June 18 and continues through the summer every Wednesday evening until August 20. Rodeo
ticket prices are $16 for adults, $10 for youths 11-15, with children 10 and under admitted free. There is
also a VIP section closer to the bucking chutes and with a better view of the action. VIP tickets are $25
for adults, $15 for youths 6-15, with children 5 and under free and include a souvenir stadium cushion.
Rodeo gates open at 5 p.m. for pre-rodeo activities including the BBQ which ends at 7 p.m. The
sandwich package will be available throughout the evening. A full bar also opens at 5 p.m. and closes at
9:30 p.m.
The rodeo starts at 7 p.m. and includes team roping, dally ribbon roping, bareback bronc and
saddle bronc riding, bull riding and barrel racing. The rodeo concludes about 8:30 p.m. and is followed
by singing and roasting marshmallows around a campfire.

SNOWMASS HIGHLIGHTS DISC GOLF WITH NEW TOURNAMENT JUNE 20-22

Snowmass Village, CO - One of the nation's highest disc golf venues and the only Colorado resort to offer two on-mountain courses, Snowmass Village welcomes a new event June 20-22, the Snowmassive Disc Golf Open. Sanctioned by the Professional Disc Golf Association, this three-day event takes place on Snowmass Mountain for cash and prizes.
"Snowmass is one of only a handful of sanctioned disc golf mountain events in the state of Colorado," says Event Manager Dave Elkan. "This is the first step towards hosting a national event and a great chance to showcase our incredible courses."
The Snowmassive Disc Golf Open is a limited entry PDGA Tier B competition which offers 135 registered players two days of sanctioned play plus a Doubles Best tournament kick-off on Friday. Participants will get to compete in 27 holes on both Saturday and Sunday and receive a special players' package which includes two days of lift tickets, a commemorative disc, and a players' party on Saturday night. Prizes will be awarded for the top 40% of each division (men and women's from novice to pro) with four or more participants, and cash prizes for the pro division are based on a percentage of total payouts for both men and women.
Snowmass' two 18-hole courses are free to the public, although a $10 day pass for a chairlift ride is recommended. While the 450 inches of snow this winter has slowed the opening of all 36 holes, Snowmass expects both courses to fully open by July 1. Snowmass' disc golf courses are unique to Colorado in that the courses change every year and boast varied terrain including water hazards, dramatic elevation change with tee boxes facing uphill, downhill and sideways, and tee boxes with spectacular mountain views. The summer disc golf season concludes with the Autumn Open, a competition traditionally held the weekend after Labor Day with a total cash and prize payout.
Much like its cousin, old fashioned golf, the object of Disc Golf is to traverse a course from beginning to end in the fewest number of throws with specially designed Frisbee discs that are aimed into a basket or target.

"We've had some remarkable local homebrew and chili presented here over the past several years," says event director Josh Behrman. "We're pleased so many locals have signed up and invite anyone else out to give their secret recipe a go."
The People's Choice chili and homebrew tastings and voting take place in the afternoon on Sunday on the Snowmass Village Mall with the public tasting and votings beginning at 2 p.m. Chili participants must make a minimum of four gallons of chili, while brewers must bring enough brew for at least 30 4oz samplers.

As a result, Snowmass Village officials today made the decision to cancel the June 14-15 La Sportiva Trail Race Trifecta which was expected to use trails high up the mountain. Additionally, the Burlingame chairlift, which had been expected to open June 6, has been delayed in opening until the weekend of June 14.
"Unfortunately the spectacular winter has summer consequences, and there's just too much snow up there right now," says Events Manager Dave Elkan. "We couldn't safely clear some of the higher trails of snow and debris in time for the race, and racer safety is our number one concern."
The next event in the Snowmass Village summer schedule, the Professional Disc Golf Association-sanctioned Snowmassive Disc Golf Open (June 20-22), has been pared down to 36 holes from the original 54 but will go on as planned. The event hosts three days of disc-golf competitions for cash and prizes.
Festival-goers to Snowmass Village's first event of the summer season, the 5th annual Snowmass Chili Pepper & Brew Fest (June 6-8), need not worry about snow and soggy seating. While the upper slopes on Snowmass have been slow to melt, the conditions on Fanny Hill at the site of the upcoming festival are spectacular and dry due to early season plowing and a new drainage system on the hill.

song - it's all about the little tweaks and changes
that take it from good to great.
Mick's wines are featured at this year's Food & Wine Classic in Aspen and includes selections from his wines produced at Langtry Estate & Vineyards in the Guenoc Valley of California's Lake County. Legendary New Orleans pianist Henry Butler replaces The Wildbirds

(Snowmass Village, CO) - The Snowmass Chili Pepper & Brew Fest announces that legendary pianist Henry Butler has been added to the music line-up, replacing The Wildbirds. He joins New Orleans luminaries Dr. John and the Neville Brothers on Saturday, June 7.
"Henry Butler is an outstanding addition to the festival line-up and a perfect complement to Dr. John and the Neville Brothers. We're thrilled he was able to perform," says event director Josh Behrman.
Butler, who just released his first-ever live solo album produced by George Winston, is an eight-time W.C. Handy "Best Blues Instrumentalist" award nominee and has been called "the finest all-around pianist in New Orleans" (Jazz Times), "a piano genius" (All Music Guide) and "the greatest living proponent of the classic New Orleans piano tradition" (CMJ New Music Report Issue). Butler plays a rich amalgam of jazz, Caribbean, classical, pop, blues and R&B influences.
Born in New Orleans and blinded by glaucoma since birth, Butler mastered baritone horn, valve trombone and drums in addition to the piano at the Louisiana State School for the Blind in Baton Rouge. He was mentored by legendary Jazz clarinetist Alvin Batiste and went on to study with keyboard players George Duke, Cannonball Adderley's Quintet, Sir Roland Hanna and Harold Mabern and has played with performers such as B.B. King, Dr. John, and Professor Longhair.
The Snowmass Chili Pepper & Brew Fest kicks off the Aspen/Snowmass summer festival season June 6-8 and draws over 7,000 people to Snowmass with three days devoted to chili, microbrews, and outdoor concerts. The International Chili Society holds district and regional championships, while an invitational microbrew competition lures brewers from all over the United States.
